21-Year-Old From Peconic Charged With DWI After Southold Crash Sends 3 To Hospital

A Long Island man has been accused of driving while intoxicated after a single-vehicle crash resulted in three people being hospitalized.

Officers responded to a report of a crash on Route 48 in Southold at about 5:15 a.m. Sunday, May 12.

Upon arrival, officers found a pickup truck that had struck a tree with three passengers suffering injuries from the collision, Southold Police said. 

As a result of an investigation at the scene, the driver, Nicholas Grathwohl, age 21, of Peconic, was transported to SUNY Stony Brook Hospital and charged with driving while intoxicated.

Both passengers were also transported to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries, said the South Police Department, which was assisted with the investigation by the state police.
